Tô Lâm is a Vietnamese politician and former police officer who has served as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), the top position of CPV since August 2024. He was also the 13th president of Vietnam from May to October 2024. A veteran of the People's Public Security Forces with over 40 years of service, Lâm rose through the ranks to become Minister of Public Security in 2016, a position he held until his election to the presidency in 2024.
